Results of the competition for the awarding of the “Milorad Macura” and “Dimitrije Perišić” awards, 2023

Annual award in the field of architecture and urbanism “Milorad Macura”

The Jury of the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia, for the awarding the annual “Milorad Macura” award for the best master’s thesis in the field of architecture and urbanism, considered six submitted applications as follows: 1) four proposals from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture: master’s thesis titled “Aval Crater,” by Katarina Mančić; master’s thesis “L(o)ess is more – Museum of the Pannonian Sea,” by Luka Vujović; master’s thesis “Sustainable Revitalization of Education Facilities in Service of Rural Renewal and Development, Using the Example of the Rural Area of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac,” by Veljko Dmitrović; and master’s thesis “The Storm Is Coming: Landscapes of the Forgotten World,” by Vesna Janković; 2) one proposal from the University of Niš – Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture: master’s thesis titled “Blue-Green Infrastructure as Part of Urban Design: The Duty-Free Zone Complex in Dimitrovgrad,” by Boris Ranchev; and 3) one proposal from the University of Novi Sad – Faculty of Technical Sciences, Department of Architecture and Urbanism: master’s thesis titled “In Search of New Interactions of Architecture and Theater – Conceptual Solution for the Dance Theater ‘Czech Warehouse’,” by Darko Sekulić..

After reviewing all six master’s theses, the Jury made the following decision:

The “Milorad Macura” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of architecture and urbanism in the academic year 2022/2023 is awarded to Vesna Janković, for the master’s thesis titled “The Storm Is Coming: Landscapes of the Forgotten World,” from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, under the mentorship of Prof. Milan Vujović.

Additionally, the Jury decided that the master’s thesis titled “Sustainable Revitalization of Education Facilities in Service of Rural Renewal and Development, Using the Example of the Rural Area of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac,” by Veljko Dmitrović, considering the thematic focus of the research and contribution, be forwarded for consideration to the Jury for the awarding of the “Dimitrije Perišić” awards.

The Jury of the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia, for the awarding the annual ‘Milorad Macura’ award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture and urbanism, considered six submitted applications for doctoral dissertations, as follows: 1) two proposals from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, for the dissertation titled ‘Avant-garde Architectural Practices: Experiment as an Aesthetic and Political Category,’ by Dr. Boško Drobnjak; and for the dissertation titled ‘Reconceptualization of the Use Value of Housing: Interpretation of Everyday Life in Residential Construction for the Needs of the JNA,’ by Dr. Dalia Dukanac; 2) three proposals from the University of Novi Sad – Faculty of Technical Sciences, Department of Architecture and Urbanism, for the dissertation titled ‘Aestheticization in Contemporary Architectural Discourse: Duality of Adapted and Authentic,’ by Dr. Marija Ćaćić; for the dissertation ‘Functions of Modernism Space in the Transformation of the Contemporary City,’ by Dr. Slobodan Jović; and for the dissertation ‘Urbanistic-Architectural Methods and Models for the Protection of Cities from Suspended Particle Emission,’ by Dr. Miljan Šunjević; and 3) one proposal from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture – University of Niš, for the dissertation titled ‘Defining Program and Project Models for the Revitalization of Rural Areas with a Special Emphasis on Climate Change – Example of Southeast Serbia,’ by Dr. Milica Igić.

After reviewing all six dissertations, the Jury made the following decision:

The ‘Milorad Macura’ Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture and urbanism in the academic year 2022/2023 is awarded to Dr. Dalia Dukanac, MArch, for the dissertation titled “Reconceptualization of the Utility Value of the Dwelling: Interpretation of Everyday Life in Residential Construction for the Needs of the JNA,” defended in 2023 at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, under the mentorship of Professor Vladimir Lojanica.

The Annual Award in the field of Spatial Planning “Dimitrije Perišić

The Jury of the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia, for the awarding of the annual “Dimitrije Perišić” prize for the best master’s thesis in the field of spatial planning considered two submitted applications for master’s theses: 1) on the recommendation of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, for the thesis entitled “Morphological Type of Rural Settlements as a Planning Factor at the Local Level – The Example of the City of Valjevo,” authored by Lazar Tomović, and 2) on the recommendation of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, for the thesis entitled “Sustainable Revitalization of Educational Facilities in Support of Rural Renewal and Development, Using the Example of the Rural Area of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac,” authored by Veljko Dmitrović.

The application for the second master’s thesis was submitted to the Commission for the annual “Milorad Matzura” awards. However, considering the thematic focus of the scientific research and the contribution to the field of spatial planning, the thesis was referred for consideration to the Commission for the “Dimitrije Perišić” award in the field of spatial planning.

After reviewing the submitted master’s theses, the Jury unanimously reached the following decision:.

The annual “Dimitrije Perišić” prize for the best master’s thesis in the field of spatial planning for the academic year 2022/2023 is awarded to Veljko Dmitrović for the thesis “Sustainable Revitalization of Educational Facilities in Support of Rural Renewal and Development, Using the Example of the Rural Area of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac,” defended in May 2023 at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Danijela Milovanović Rodić.

The Jury of the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia for the awarding of the annual “Dimitrije Perišić” prize for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of spatial planning considered one submitted application for a doctoral dissertation: on the recommendation of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, for the dissertation entitled “Application of Scenario Methods in Spatial Planning at the Local Level in Serbia,” authored by Dr. Bojana Pjanović.

After reviewing the submitted dissertation, the Commission unanimously reached the following decision:

The annual “Dimitrije Perišić” prize for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of spatial planning for the academic year 2022/2023 is awarded to Dr. Bojana Pjanović for the dissertation “Application of Scenario Methods in Spatial Planning at the Local Level in Serbia,” defended in May 2023 at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Slavoljub Dragićević.
