The “Milorad Macura” Annual Award in the field of architecture and urbanism

The Commission of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia for the “Milorad Macura” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of architecture and urbanism considered regularly received applications for seven master’s theses, four proposals from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture: Belgrade Trends – spaces between (us) _Ada Huja Hydroborders “, by Đorđe Petković; “Terra Posteterna: Hyperobjects as Phenomena in the Third Landscape”, by Milica Božić; “Biotechnology Center. A new scene of post-industrial culture: the scars of Belgrade’s industrial heritage and its reaffirmation “, by Milica Simić; “Heterotopia – other places of Belgrade”, by Jovana Arsić; then two proposals from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture – University of Nis: “Possibilities for the renewal of residential areas inherited from the socialist past – elaboration of proposals and measures at the micro-urban level”, by Marija Spasić; and “Conceptual architectural and urban design of the residential and business complex in Nis”, by Nikola Milenović, as well as the proposal of the Faculty of Technical Sciences – University of Novi Sad for the “Self-sustainable upgrade in an urban context” by Marko Mihajlović.

After reviewing all seven master’s theses, the Commission unanimously made the following decision: The annual award “Milorad Macura” for the best master’s thesis in the field of architecture and urbanism in the school year 2020/2021, was awarded to Jovana Arsić, for the work entitled “Heterotopia – other places in Belgrade” defended at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, under the mentorship of prof. Dr. Dragana Vasiljević Tomić.

The Commission of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia for the “Milorad Macura” Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture and urbanism considered regularly received applications for two doctoral dissertations: 1) proposal of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture for the work  “Aesthetic manipulation of the experience of architectural space-through the analysis of Christian sacral architecture of the second half of the XX century” by Danira Sovilj; and 2) the proposal of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture – the University of Nis for the work “Architecture of multifamily housing in Nis in the Modern period from 1945-1980”  by Marjan Petrović.

 After reviewing both dissertations, the Commission unanimously made the following decision: The annual award “Milorad Macura” for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture and urbanism in the school year 2020/2021, was awarded to Dr. Marjan Petrović, d.i.a., for a dissertation entitled “Architecture of multifamily housing Nis in the Modern period from 1945-1980 “, defended at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Nis, at the Department of Housing, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Keković.

The “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award in the field of spatial planning The Commission of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia for the “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of spatial planning considered regularly received applications for two master’s theses: 1) proposal of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture for the “Sustainable waste management in Belgrade –  integration of the waste prevention, circular economy and modern environmental protection technologies concept” by Marija Mićanović; and 2) the proposal of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography for the “Improvement of the methodology of planning of the agricultural land usage at the local level in Serbia” by Vladimir Maksimović.

After reviewing both master’s theses, the Commission unanimously made the following decision: The “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of spatial planning in the school year 2020/2021 was awarded to Vladimir Maksimović, for the work “Improvement of the methodology of planning of the agricultural land usage at the local level in Serbia”, defended in September 2021 at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, and under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tijana Dabović.

The Commission of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia for the “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of spatial planning considered one regularly received doctoral dissertation at the proposal of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, “Reorganization of local government units as a factor of spatial and functional development of the Republic of Srpska “, by Dragana Popović. With regard to the previous paragraph, the Commission unanimously adopted the following decision: The “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of spatial planning in the school year 2020/2021 was awarded to Dragana Popović, for the doctoral dissertation “Reorganization of local governments as a factor of spatial and functional development of Republika Srpska”, defended in May 2021 at the University in Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, done under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Velimir Šećerov
