International Scientific Dissemination of the NONA Project Results in the Final Phase of the Project

In the final phase of the NONA – New Governance for New Spaces project, the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia (IAUS), in cooperation with the City of Šabac, is actively engaged not only in the organisation of the final project meeting, but also in the international scientific dissemination of the results and methodological approaches developed throughout the project implementation.

A particularly important segment of these activities relates to the scientific validation and international presentation of methodological approaches developed through the project, especially in the fields of urban regeneration, participatory governance, and the integration of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles into the transformation processes of degraded areas.

The scientific paper entitled Recommended Methodological Steps for Applying New European Bauhaus Principles in Urban Regeneration: Insights from NONA Project Pilot Sites, authored by Nataša Danilović Hristić, Nataša Čolić Marković, Sanja Simonović Alfirević, and Borjan Brankov (IAUS), in cooperation with Blaž Barborič (Geodetic Institute of Slovenia – GIS), was published in the international scientific journal Sustainability. The paper analyses the experiences of the NONA project pilot sites and proposes methodological steps for applying the principles of the New European Bauhaus in urban regeneration processes within mid-sized cities.

In addition, the project results were further presented through the paper Urban governance initiatives and organisational change: a case from Serbia, authored by Nataša Čolić Marković, Borjan Brankov, Sanja Simonović Alfirević, and Nataša Danilović Hristić, published in the special issue Urban Experimentation and Learning. Green, Sustainable and Just Transformative Capacities? of the journal Urban Transformations, published by the prestigious international publisher Springer. The paper addresses issues of urban governance, institutional transformation, and the development of new organisational models in the context of participatory and integrative approaches to urban transformation.

At the same time, within the International Scientific-Professional Conference Urban Planning and Sustainable Development, held from 28 to 30 May 2026 in Bajina Bašta, the paper entitled Model for Integrating Green Investments into Reuse of Degraded Areas Through the Lenses of Participatory Planning and Urban Governance – The Experience of the City of Šabac in the Interreg NONA Project was also presented. The paper was authored by Nataša Čolić Marković, Nataša Danilović Hristić, Borjan Brankov, Sanja Simonović Alfirević (IAUS), and Dejan Vujić (City Administration of the City of Šabac). Within the framework of the NONA project, the conference served as a National Capacity Building Event, providing a platform for presenting and discussing the NONA model with relevant national stakeholders from the fields of urban planning, spatial planning, public administration, and sustainable urban development.

These activities represent an important contribution to the international visibility of the NONA project and further confirm the importance of connecting scientific research, professional practice, and local development initiatives within processes of sustainable urban transformation.
