Within the project implemented by UN Women organization “Safety of Girls and Women in Public Spaces” on May 31, 2023, the “First Thematic Workshop on Improving Public Urban Planning Policies” was held, implemented by the expert team of the Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia – IAUS.
The project is supported by the Coordination Body for Gender Equality, the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs and the British Embassy in Belgrade. We would like to thank the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade PUE, which provided the space in which the workshops will be held.
The meeting was opened and welcomed by Mr. Đorđe Milić, Assistant Minister for Spatial and Urban Planning, Mrs. Stephanie Shillinglaw, Programme Director of the British Embassy in Belgrade and Mrs. Tijana Milošević, representative of UN Women.
The IAUS team presented this phase of the project, the content of the planned workshops and the projected goal, held presentations on the role of participation in creating public policies and planning solutions and an introductory lecture on the importance of urban security, the relationship between public city spaces and users, personal sense of security from the point of view of women and girls and proposals for measures to improve the situation.
