The Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia announces the call for applications for its annual awards for the best master’s theses and doctoral dissertations in the fields of architecture, urbanism, and spatial planning for the year 2025.
The Institute traditionally grants annual awards for the best master’s theses and doctoral dissertations defended at faculties of universities in Serbia that include departments or chairs in architecture, urbanism, and spatial planning, as well as at related faculties in the region, as follows:
- The “Milorad Macura” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of architecture and urbanism;
- The “Milorad Macura” Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture and urbanism;
- The “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best master’s thesis in the field of spatial planning; and
- The “Dimitrije Perišić” Annual Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of spatial planning.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
- The awards are granted for the best master’s theses and doctoral dissertations defended in the previous academic year (2024/2025), or in the current year up to 15 December 2025, for which nominations have been submitted in accordance with this call.
- Nominations must be submitted in written or electronic form to the Secretariat of the Institute within 45 days from the date of this announcement, i.e. between 15 November and 30 December 2025, to the following address: Bulevar kralja Aleksandra 73/II, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia, e-mail: iaus@iaus.ac.rs, institut.iaus@gmail.com, Please include the note: For the Institute Award.
- The right to nominate a work for the award belongs to: the dean of the faculty, the head of department, the chairperson, the selection committee, or the thesis supervisor.
- The nomination must include a cover letter from the proposer, accompanied by: information about the proposer; information about the nominated candidate (full name, field of study, title of the work, short biography, contact address and telephone number); information about the supervisor; a brief description/justification of the work; and a copy of the master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation (mandatory in electronic form, and preferably in printed form, which will be returned to the proposer).
The decision on the awards will be made by 15 January 2026 by the Institute’s Commissions, with written justification, and will be published on the Institute’s official website and announced through public media. The awardees will be notified in due time about the date and place of the award ceremony.
The annual awards consist of a plaque, a set of publications, and a presentation of the awarded work in the national scientific journal of the highest category “Architecture and Urbanism”, published by the Institute.
Subject to the Institute’s financial means, the annual awards may also include a monetary prize, the amount of which is determined by the Institute’s Managing Board upon the proposal of the Director.
